The rapper Tory Lanez, whose true name is Daystar Peterson, is currently the subject of a jury’s deliberations. Megan Thee Stallion, whose true name is Megan Pete, is claimed to have been shot by him.
This month’s dramatic trial added to the confusion over what occurred while also revealing new information.
The Shooting Incident
According to the prosecution, the incident took place soon after both musicians left a party in July 2020 at Kylie Jenner’s house in the Hollywood Hills, which belongs to the Kardashian family. The two were traveling in an SUV with Peterson’s bodyguard, Kelsey Harris, a former friend of Pete’s from whom she has since become estranged, and Harris.

According to the prosecution, the two rappers got into a heated argument when Pete mocked Peterson’s rap abilities. Sooner or later, Pete demanded to be let out of the car, at which time Peterson allegedly repeatedly fired at her, authorities said.
After numerous 911 calls in response to the gunfire, Los Angeles police officers located Pete with a foot injury and pulled over the SUV on Hollywood Boulevard. Pete initially claimed to have been harmed at Jenner’s party after treading on shattered glass.
But a few weeks later, she claimed Peterson had shot her in an Instagram Live video. According to her, she was hesitant to call the Los Angeles police about the event for fear that they might use lethal force, as they had in the recent shooting deaths of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky.

Peterson was first detained on the basis of a possible firearms possession charge. His defense team has worked hard to discredit Pete’s justification for why she didn’t immediately disclose the shooting from the beginning. His attorneys have argued that if she had been worried about the police response, she could have notified the paramedics or physicians how she was hurt as they extracted bullet pieces from her foot.
The Charges
Peterson is accused of careless discharge of a firearm, assault with a handgun, and possession of a concealed firearm. He may spend up to 23 years behind bars if found guilty on all counts and two additional sentence enhancements.
The Trial
On the witness stand, Pete spoke of her post-shooting sadness and suicidal thoughts. She broke down in tears several times and expressed regret for ever speaking out about the incident.

If he had known I would have to endure this agony, Pete, 27, added, “I wish he would have just shot and murdered me.” Pete was alluding to the barrage of abuse she claimed she faced for speaking out about Peterson.
Pete stated that an altercation broke out inside their SUV on Nichols Canyon Road as they were leaving a party at Jenner’s house with Peterson, his security, and Harris. She claimed that Peterson was irate that Pete had asked him to leave the gathering.
Peterson then went around and commanded Pete to “stop lying” to Harris regarding their romance.
In the months leading up to the shooting, Pete testified in court, she and Peterson had become friends and connected over their mothers’ deaths. They occasionally engaged in sexual activity as well.
