If LBREPORT.com didn’t tell you,
who would? No one in LBREPORT.com’s ownership, reporting or editorial decision-making has ties to development interests, advocacy groups or other special interests; or is seeking or receiving benefits of City development-related decisions; or holds a City Hall appointive position; or has contributed sums to political campaigns for Long Beach incumbents or challengers. (July 30, 2021, 2:05 p.m.) — On December 26, 2020, LBREPORT.com announced our opinionated choice for “2020 Outrage of the Year. We chose CD2 Cindy Allen’s 2020 contributors who funded what we considered evasive campaign responses by her on major matters meriting meaningful answers. LBREPORT.com didn’t focus on Ms. Allen but on her campaign’s contributors. Despite leaving questions unanswered that any candidate should expect (and walked out when asked a pesky pending question at a grassroots Zoomed candidate forum), her funders prioritized putting her on the City Council instead of City Hall-feared Reform Ticket candidate Robert Fox.
So who would give a total of $24,700 between Jan. 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021 to now fuel CD2 incumbent Allen’s “officeholder account”? They include some familiar names and entities:
- Rex Richardson [now seeking re-election to third term] for City Council 2022: $500
- Kambiz Babaoff (Managing Dir., Ensemble Developments): $750
- Long Beach Firefighters Ass’n PAC: $750
- Chris Wacker, CEO Laserfiche: $350
- Los Angeles/Orange County Building and Construction Trades Council PAC: $750
- George Medak, Affiliated Development Group: $500
- Matt Knabe, Partner Englander, Knabe, Allen: $500
- SA Recycling: $750
- Long Beach Collective Association: $750
- Randall Hernandez (Manager Verizon]: $250
- So Cal Pipe Trades Council #16 PAC: $750
- Laborers Int’l Union of No. America Local 1309: $750
- UFCW A Voice for Working California: $750
- Shoreline Village: $500
- Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters PAC
- Ford Worthington: $750

This leaves incumbent Allen with $20,425.50 in her officeholder account for future items.
>During the 2020 election campaign, we recall that the CD2 candidates were asked at a candidate forum if they supported abolishing “officeholder” accounts (created by the City Council, criticized by some as slush funds enabling Council incumbent fundraising beyond election cycles.) Reform Ticket candidate Fox said “yes.” Candidate Allen said “no.”
